A Few More Reasons Why We Don't Hold Open Houses

Back on August 21, I wrote a blog post about why we don't hold traditional open houses.  I described the change in technology, who really benefits from the open house (the AGENT), and the lack of overall interest in open houses.  Lastly, I talked about our new "24/7 Open House" concept that we utilize in place of the traditional open house.

Now, let me just get to the nitty-gritty.  These are stories "ripped from the headlines" about all the bad stuff that actually happened at open houses.

Is an Open House necessary when selling a home? No!

NAR CANCELS National Open House Weekend starting in 2014 - due to lack of interest.

A Realtor was shot during an open house in Iowa.

A Realtor groped during an Open House in Arizona

A couple posed as Buyers and stole jewelry during an open house.

A person steals 162k of jewelry from a Highland Park, IL open house. (My 2 cents, never leave that much jewelry laying around - don't 'ya think!)

You guessed it...another theft in Maryland.

Pain pills stolen during this open house in Naperville - right in our back yard.

Two expensive handbags were heisted in this story.

Here is a story with multiple links to other homicides during open houses.

A woman was sexually assaulted while showing a home.

Beverly Carter, a Realtor in Arkansas, murdered during a home showing.

Agent knocked unconscious outside listing.

82k of jewelry stolen from 12 open houses.

Realtor attacked at open house in Denver

The smart Realtor who shot her attacker during an open house!

I think you get the drift.

Here is why we are using the 24/7 Open House:

1) Technology is king.
2) 92% of buyers start their home search online, according to the National Assoc of Realtors.
3) Most open house "buyers" arent even pre-approved. (I don't even show MY buyer clients homes until they are pre-approved - why the heck would you waste your Sunday showing your home to unqualified buyers!!)
4) Your nosy neighbors want to see the inside of your home.
